“Mount Everest is there to climb, so climb it.”
This quote says a lot about the loveable, drill sergeant-mother-competitor, Enterprise super trainer, Julianne.
Standing proud in her portrait that hangs from the studio Wall of Fame, Julianne is ripped with a huge medal gleaming from around her neck. At fifty, she is strong fit and in amazing shape! But for Julianne Witkamp, this was not always the case…
“I put on a lot of weight during pregnancy, 22kgs to be exact,” she recalls, “and I knew that I had a lot of work to do to get it off”. But true to her nature, no mountain too tall for Julianne, she set new goals and began her health and fitness journey to rediscover her confidence and feel good about her body again.
“I lost my excess baby weight within the first year” she says, but by no means did Julianne stop there. With a love for dancing and aerobics, “I decided I wanted to become an instructor and still am to this day, 22 years later”. She started weight training and took a keen interest in figure competition. “I have competed on and off for the past 16 years,” but adds “competing isn’t for the faint hearted, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. But I enjoy seeing the changes I can make to my own body with hard training and a proper diet”.
“I love how I feel being fit and healthy and love passing it on”, says Julianne, “I completed my personal training certificate so that I could educate others on how to lead a healthy lifestyle. At work, I love pushing people to their limits,” but she admits “the most rewarding part of my job is talking to my clients once we have finished our session and knowing that I’m part of their journey to achieve their goals”.
“When I met the guys at Enterprise, I loved their honesty. I thought ‘I can learn a lot from these trainers. I signed up and the rest is history.” Julianne achieved outstanding results training with Reece. She competed with Team Enterprise and completed Mark’s female-specific Internship.
She had found her place at Enterprise Fitness- her positive outlook and driven nature a perfect match for the studio culture. In 2015 Mark welcomed Julianne to the team. “The ongoing education from Mark and the support from the other trainers… I love it!” she says, and admits “I don’t ever leave work without learning something”.
Outside of her training and time spent in the gym, Julianne jokes, “is there such a thing?” But when she does find the time to relax and unwind she says “I love to catch up with my two children, family and friends or take my puppy Thor for long walks”.
Julianne is 50 and in the best shape of her life! She endeavors to stay healthy and happy or in her own words “happy in work, happy in life”. She looks forward to again taking on the challenge and competing in a figure competition. And as a proud trainer of Enterprise Fitness, complete the circle and guide others on their journey from the gym floor to the bodybuilding stage.
